The Basics of Raising Backyard Chickens in the Suburbs

You have decided that you want Backyard Chickens! Good for you. Now, how do you do that so that your birds are safe and healthy, your neighbors are happy, and you are free to enjoy the benefits of owning chickens? Our teacher, Gwenne Bailey, known as the Chicken Lady of South Jersey, has worked with nineteen South Jersey towns to modify their ordinances to allow backyard hens. She teaches husbandry classes that many local communities require to become licensed to keep backyard hens.

Gwenne Baile, known as the Chicken Lady of South Jersey, has worked with twenty-nine Delaware Valley towns to modify their ordinances to allow backyard hens.  She is nationally recognized for that work having appeared on national CBS News Online Edition as well as doing several Podcasts including one with national Pew Trusts.  She teaches an advanced class that many local communities require to become licensed to keep backyard hens. She also teaches to certify handlers of therapy chickens. Gwenne has lectured on therapy hens to several groups including the National Coop Camp in Indianapolis. She was filmed for a documentary on domestic animals for the Discovery Channel. Gwenne and her hens are true Backyard Hen Ambassadors.
