DESCRIPTION:Tempura is believed to have its origins in the 16th century\, when Portuguese missionaries and traders introduced deep-frying techniques to Japan. Japanese chefs adapted these techniques over time by using a lighter batter to create a crispier texture and more delicate flavors. Tempura techniques are not difficult to master\, and practically anything can become tempura. \nJoin us in the Farmhouse Kitchen to learn the basics of tempura. Working in teams\, we’ll create that light tempura batter\, prepare our ingredients and then learn the proper frying style. This can be a vegetarian class easily. We will have shrimp on hand but will keep it separate.

DESCRIPTION:Garden to Table Summer Camp: Join us for five days of cooking and nature adventures in our indoor/outdoor half day camp. Each morning is filled with fun\, hands-on cooking in the farmhouse kitchen followed by nature-inspired crafts and games. Our menus and nature activities revolve around a daily theme. Certified teachers Jamie and Mindy are thrilled to share this unique experience\, encouraging kids to cook and explore new flavors and the natural world around them in a fun and educational way. Each camper will go home with an exclusive bundle of culinary and nature-themed swag\, including their own handmade crafts. \nDuring the week our participants will create breakfasts and snacks with fresh fruits and vegetables\, then head outside for their nature adventures learning about the natural world of seeds\, plants\, local birds and insects. There will be educational games and “make and take” crafts for the kids to bring home. In case of inclement weather\, we do have a sheltered space for the outdoor part of class.

DESCRIPTION:When we hear gnocchi\, we think of the traditional Italian potato-based pasta. However\, there is a French version of gnocchi that used a flour and egg base\, rather like a pate a choux. In this class\, you will be pairing up and making dough as well as blanching and shocking some pasta for future use. Chef Mike will demonstrate a simple\, seasonal sauce to accompany your Parisian Gnocchi so we can enjoy a meal together at the end of class.
