Farm Feature: Black Sheep Farm
Black Sheep Farm, Mullica Hill, NJ
Black Sheep Farm
Co-owned by Bruce Santino and Tom O’Neill.
Starting out as a family-run operation by Bruce and his family at their home in Mickelton, NJ, Black Sheep Farm was a small operation, using a micro ecosystem approach to farming to produce the highest quality foods. As time went on and Bruce and Tom began working together, their farm is now operating out of Mullica Hill, NJ, directly behind William Heritage Winery at 480 Mullica Hill Rd, Mullica Hill, NJ.
Not only are they owners and operators of Black Sheep Farm, Bruce and Tom are also both chefs and have a strong passion for good quality food and sharing it with their neighbors. They grow and supply their food to not only our shoppers at the Burlington County Farmers Market, but to other farms markets in the area plus a few restaurants in the Collingswood/ Haddonfield area. It is very important for them to expand their organic and pesticide-free agriculture to their family, friends, and community. Bruce and Tom are not only friends and business partners, but they also claim to have a symbiotic mind with their ideas for the farm.
We took a visit to Black Sheep Farm and had a blast walking through their bounty. We stopped by at the beginning of October last year, so they had many leafy greens, cauliflowers, squash, pumpkins, cabbage, chicory, and much more. In addition to this, they have a beautiful grape vineyard on their property that was planted in the 1950s, by William Hertiage Winery owners, and is still producing amazing concord grapes to this day! It’s incredible to see these plants continue to grow for decades.
Black Sheep Farm is considered a hyper-seasonal farm. Depending on the season, some produce we can see coming from them includes leafy greens, strawberries, radishes, turnips, peas, broccoli, kale, etc. along with your favorite summertime produce like tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers and zucchini.
Stop by the Burlington County Farmers Market on any given Saturday, and Black Sheep Farm will happily educate you on the importance of fresh produce, all while inspiring you with their favorite recipes.
We love Black Sheep Farm and look forward to their straight-from-the-farm goodness every Saturday morning.
