Pretzel Bites and Cheese Dip

A snack everyone can love.

Ingredients
  

Pretzel Bites

  • 1 ½ cups warm 110 to 115 degrees F milk*
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons coarse sea salt* plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1 .25 oz ounce package active dry yeast
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour plus more if needed
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter plus extra for brushing
  • 9 cups water
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg

Cheese Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Pretzel Bites

  • Preheat oven to 450. Wisk together the warm milk, sugar and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Sprinkle the yeast on top and wait about 5 to 10 minutes for the yeast to activate.
  • Add the flour and melted butter. Mix everything into combined add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky, it should form a ball and not be too sticky.
  • Transfer to a lightly oiled bowl cover with a warm towel and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Cover a baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix 1 egg with water for egg wash mixture and set aside until after boiled.
  • Preheat the pot of water and add the baking soda.
  • Roll out our pretzels and cut them to about 1” bites
  • Place the dough into the boiling water for about 30 seconds.
  • Remove the dough bites and cover them with egg wash mixture.
  • Add salt on top. Bake until golden brown about 10-14 minutes.

Cheese Sauce

  • Melt butter over medium high heat. When melted, add the flour and salt and mix thoroughly, mixed constantly until the mixture is golden brown.
  • Add the milk and stir for about 5-7 minutes until thickened slightly.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in the cheese until melted and smooth.
